Area Contest – Humorous Speeches September 2016

At the York House in Twickenham, on the 29th September

Tsitsi won first place in the Table Topics contest!  CONGRATULATIONS!! The topic was ‘After a bout of food poisoning in Westminster, you are the Prime Minister for the day.  Tell us about it’.  Tsitsi’s speech was very funny and ended in a crescendo saying ‘we will fix broken Britain’ with such conviction that I do say ‘Tsitsi for PM!’.  I did the same contest and offered to cycle around London all day, because nobody would be at work.  Of course once the contest is over you think of the smarter things you could have said.  It’s a reminder to keep doing Table Topics because you get better the more you do them.

Kristy’s speech ‘Free to pee in a public place’ got us engrossed in the grossness of a temple’s public toilet on the island of Krabi in Thailand.  The speech was well received by the audience. It got tense when third and second place was announced and Kristy’s name hadn’t come up.   Could it be?  But unfortunately no, it wasn’t to be.  That was a huge disappointment.  The disadvantage of contests is that you don’t get evaluated.

It was a Humorous speech contest, but the funniest thing that happened had nothing to do with the speeches.  It was when the audience was sitting waiting for the next Table Topics contestant to be ushered into the room, but seemed to be waiting for longer than normal.  It turns out the usher couldn’t find the room the contestants were waiting in! Hilarious!

Well done everybody and thanks for representing The Toast Rack in all aspects: speaker, table topic speaker, judge and audience.

Till next Thursday! Enjoy the photos below.
